Could these be the Perfect EV's at the Amerton Railway Steam Gala
Hello everyone,
Today Lawrie heads to the Amerton Railway for their steam gala - but he's not been allowed on the footplate of one of the noisy, smoky and dirty machines. No, he's been told to report to the Industrial Railway...
The sound in the video was captured using a 3D microphone - it's best listened to with headphones! This model is a SR3D binaural microphone, and frankly on a windy day like that, without it there would be no audio for you to listen to.
If you want to get your own with 10% off check the link here: sr3d.co.uk/?ref=LAWRENCEROSE
A huge thank you to the folk at the Amerton Railway for invited LMM along for the day.
If you want more information on the railway then check...

HE HAD EYES.
Those are the biggest googly eyes I've ever seen.
I love the Amerton Railway galas, unfortunately not able to get there at the moment. Shouldn't these be named; Amp and Volt perhaps?
How are you so lucky to get all of these locomotives?
6:36 walking back for the other loco - you couldn’t take the (steam) train back? 😅
i’ve made a final decision. All narrow gauge locos under 10 ton must have googley eyes.
Nice one Lawie, shame you didn't have time to do my challenge however can save that for next time, see you soon buddy
These little nuggets and ol' Atlas sure could have a chat about working for ages and then work and batteries drying up.
I had a word with the owners over that!
You've go to love Lawrie's enthusiasm. Great stuff.
👀
It bob the battery loco!!
Locomotive with googly eyes always make me smile.
Closest to get Thomas and friends
The quirkier the better in my books and those two tick plenty of boxes! Question please: Do those tipper waggons behave better empty or loaded?
I think they'd be better loaded. They're a little light
Battery electric switchers/shunters, the only practical type of battery electric locomotive
These will run the service on the mainline all day apparently!
Love the aerial view of the three sets of track. Great for showing how a wye works, especially since they are hard to railfan.
It might be a little soulless, but it's a heck of a lot easier than waking up a cold steam loco :)
.... providing you remember to set a decent trickle charge overnight (the tricklier the better for optimum battery longevity).
Lot easier, not as much fun though!
Announcer on the passing trains: "And on your right hand side you can see a Lawrie being in his natural habitat."
I can understand these being used in a private company for moving stuff
Down in Sussex, at least one brickworks equipped their R&W battery electrics for driverless operation with ramp operated trip switches, meaning the loco was started manually and trundled off on it's own until it came to wherever the 'stop ramp' had been bolted to a sleeper. Luckily, it survived long enough to be rescued by Amberley's Chalk Pits Museum, where I believe the system forms part of industrial displays alongside the large collection of petrol and diesel locos.
It is like magic when you restore something like that to its former glory
Indeed, but showroom condition may be regarded as a tad over-enthusiastic by lovers of industrial kit. 🙂
I've always wanted a BEV loco, they're so cute and just brilliantly simple!
They're really quite good fun
I like the googly eyes. they look so goofy on such a piece of very industrial and utilitarian machinery such as this.
EV's are shite
copium
No they make a lot of sense in their context. You don't want to be down in a mine next to a diesel exhaust and they are really cheap to operate.
🤡
Ok matthew
@@Sohave So they have some use in certain instances. They would work better on an extension cord rather than batteries. Battery replacement is not cheap.
love your new train
The 165 is very exciting
Wilesco makes top-notch traction engines and also wilesco puts precision engineering into their model steam engines
They're really good engines
It's too European for me, nothing wrong with that but I personally think we should be supporting Derby more and building British trains. The 387s have a lot of character even if the seats are rock hard.
It's been lovely watching the process! Given me some inspiration for my layout (which is largely a baseboard with track on it 😂) That you or anyone here can recall, we're there ever any countryside train yards in the UK with or without a turn table? 🤔
This man should get the game derail Valley I feel like he would fall in love with the DM3
I'll have a look
Driver's Eye View?? So you spent the whole trip looking sideways and almost back? We saw nothing, no signals, no track ahead, no controls or activities you were chuntering on about. Seriously this video was a waste of time and totally unlike your normal quality. You completely forgot to orient the camera in your excitement to drive.
It's a 360 video, which means it's shot everything around it. You move the camera around using the mouse, moving you mobile device or remote to look where you want to look.
I've never seen that before, thanks for explanation and apologies for the unjustified criticism.
@clivesheppard8432 it's really annoying that I don't seem to be able to set the 'start' angle on RUclips, so often it's not a good angle
From now on when someone says "homemade locomotive" this is what I'll think of.
It's quite amazing isn't it
Imagine it next to a Big boy
I was very relieved and happy for you that there was no lasting damage to your Mini and it was a simple fix 😌😁 With the kind of potential damage you mentioned at the beginning of the video, I thought it might have been a cambelt failure, and of course if a cambelt Breaks, In an interference engine, Which I'm guessing your Mini has, If the belt breaks, the pistons will slam into the valves and cause catastrophic damage, ultimately destroying the engine, But If the belt breaks on an older non interference engine, it's no big deal, simply replace the belt and your good to go again, but most modern engines are Interference. It seems BMW Mini's are far more robust than I ever Imagined them to be. Hope you're well Lawrie, Take care pal ☺️
As a Steam Enthusiast, I too cannot stand diesels that are dressed up to look like Steam(diesel outline) 🤮🤮 At the end of the day, A diesel locomotive is a diesel locomotive, regardless of the bodywork you put on it, I don't dislike diesels but for the love of Steam locomotives, leave a diesel looking like a diesel 👌 That has honestly got to be the slowest locomotive I've ever seen, I mean, a cyclist could even out pace it and they have no engine🤣🤣 What that locomotive needs to go faster is a bigger diesel engine and a hydraulic Transmission with a mucg better gear ratio 👍 Honestly though, great video pal ☺️
I would move out to the U.K. Or wherever it is you guys live if it meant I got to work full time for you, having this as a job sounds incredible
I think it’s time you this engine a name!
It'll probably be named at some point
Once All the important repairs are complete... I wonder what livery you will choose... Maybe a poll is in order and those who donated get to vote 😊
There is a plan for what to paint it, but many other bits to do first
I wish you had had a chance to drive one of the miniature steam engines!
It might well happen
Hi there! I’m currently looking at taking on one of these types of locos to restore it to working condition, this video has been incredibly informative as to how to maintain in. Has anyone got anything that might help me restore one at all?
The cooling tank may stem ftom WW1 "Field Locomotives" operating temporary railways near the front where, what with bits of german metal "flying about" a radiator was a stupid idea.....
I think the simplex locos used in the trenches had radiators. I guess cause it allowed the whole thing to be smaller and significantly lighter for travelling on the poorly laid track.
"Thumbs Up" No. 900 John
Thank you very much!
10:22 Anyone else see the lowering semaphore over his left shoulder? John
Yes, it was the end of the day
Wilesco steam engines are top notch
They really are
Heh I knew you’d purchase it 🤣
Was it that obvious 😂
@@lmm yup 😂 it’s just too beautiful to resist. (I would have done the same😅)
Next step LMM Needs to open it own Passenger/freight service
Maybe one day!
Great stuff and fab work! 👍
Thank you!
That is absolutely splendid! I actually cheered when she moved!
So did I when I watched it back!
A fantastic sight , yes certainly a new chapter in its life and hats off to you for getting this saved and lets hope this use of You Tube is a turning point in raising funds for more of our heritage to be saved .
I'm really excited to get her sorted out!
Omg truck fire fighters😮
Saw this loco yesterday - it does indeed look very smart.
It's a really good machine!
Lawrie, you were lucky that you didn't have a walker with a red flag walking ahead of you as did early motorists did.
Or the early railways!
You were a really useful engine, driver...
😂
